Increase in family court cases fuels concern over delays

Family court statistics for April to June 2021 have shown an increase in the number of cases commenced in the family courts, with a 76 per cent rise in financial remedy applications. On a positive note, reports of domestic violence have decreased by four per cent, perhaps due in part to the easing of restrictions. Susi Gillespie, Head of Family at Thomas Mansfield Solicitors, warned the rise in financial applications and subsequent additional hearings “… will exacerbate [court] delays. Clients’ costs will also increase”.
