This World Mental Health Day, The Solicitors' Charity highlights the growing need for mental health support within the legal profession
As we approach World Mental Health Day, it's an important opportunity to spotlight the mental health challenges faced by solicitors and legal professionals. At The Solicitors' Charity, we understand that the demands of the legal profession can sometimes feel overwhelming. But, importantly, you don't have to navigate these tough times alone—help is here.
Over the past year, we've seen a significant rise in referrals, highlighting an increased need for comprehensive wellbeing support among solicitors, former solicitors, and their dependants. So far this year, we've referred twice the number of people for individual mental health support compared to 2023. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, or the stress of day-to-day life, it’s crucial to remember that support is available.
Our dedicated Case Managers are here to listen and provide tailored guidance to help you through difficult times. We’ve enhanced our mental health resources through valuable partnerships with LawCare, OneBright, and Lawsight, ensuring that you have access to a range of expert services.
-
LawCare provides confidential support specifically for legal professionals. Their trained staff understand the unique pressures of the legal profession, both on the client-side and in-house, offering a safe, non-judgmental space to discuss your feelings. Last year alone, over 300 solicitors found solace in their services.
-
OneBright complements our efforts by offering mental health assessments and specialised treatment sessions, ensuring you get the care you need when you need it most.
-
Through Lawsight, we provide access to experienced psychotherapists who understand the pressures of the legal profession, ensuring that solicitors have access to empathetic and knowledgeable support.
As we come together to observe World Mental Health Day, let’s prioritise mental wellbeing and open the dialogue around our challenges. At The Solicitors' Charity, we are committed to making a meaningful impact on the lives of solicitors across England and Wales. Together, we can create a supportive and compassionate culture within the profession.
If you're a solicitor in need of additional help, don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re here to listen, support, and guide you toward a brighter path.
