Talbots Law grows, acquiring Scaiff LLP, eyeing strategic expansion in Worcester and potential £30m revenue by 2025

Talbots Law, on a trajectory of expansion, has made its mark in Worcester through its third acquisition in twelve months, acquiring the esteemed local firm Scaiff LLP. This move signifies Talbots' maiden presence in the city center and a significant step in its growth strategy.

The acquisition ensures the retention of all 16 staff members from Scaiff LLP, with plans underway to recruit an additional 10 solicitors and administrative staff over the coming year. Notably, the Grade II listed offices on Foregate Street will undergo substantial renovation, demonstrating Talbots' commitment to a sympathetic refurbishment of the historic building.

Dave Hodgetts, Talbots Law's Chief Executive, highlighted the significance of this acquisition, marking the firm's establishment in a city abundant with potential. He emphasized the wealth of experience that Scaiff LLP brings to the table in family law, personal injury, wills, probate, and residential conveyancing, adding to Talbots' service portfolio.

Hodgetts also outlined the firm's strategic vision, anticipating a rise in annual fees from £1.2m to £2m by 2024. This acquisition follows Talbots Law's recent purchases of Sarginsons in Coventry and Wright Solicitors in Dudley and Bewdley, contributing to a revenue increase from £22m to £24m in 2023.

Simon Shaw, Managing Partner at Scaiff LLP, emphasized the shared values between the firms, highlighting the benefits for existing clients in accessing a broader range of legal expertise. He also acknowledged the reciprocal value, bringing substantial personal injury expertise to Talbots Law.

The acquisition was facilitated by David Sparkes from Millbourn Ross, an independent M&A brokering specialist, finalizing the deal on January 2nd. Talbots Law's strategic acquisitions and organic growth indicate a forward-thinking approach, eyeing further expansion in strategic areas of the West Midlands and potentially venturing into the East of the region.
