Wedlake Bell hires leading art and luxury team from Charles Russell Speechlys
The firm's managing partner described the hire as 'a real statement of intent'
City law firm Wedlake Bell has announced partners Tim Maxwell and Rudy Capildeo have joined the firm from Charles Russell Speechlys to lead its art and luxury practice. They are joined by senior associate Petra Warrington, associate Tamara Bell and solicitor Jil Birnbaum (all pictured).
The team has advised clients ranging from artists, private collectors and international art galleries to dealers of collectible cars, fine wines and yacht financiers, as well as private equity backed musical instrument funds.
The team has recently acted on key cases relating to artists' rights and high-value title disputes, which has helped save national collections and achieve world-record auction results for clients.
Both Maxwell and Capildeo are top-ranked in the leading legal directories. Maxwell’s practice focuses on art and other luxury asset related disputes. Capildeo advises on a range of non-contentious matters, including high value-transactions.
The new partners commented: “We are thrilled to have joined a firm with such complementary practice areas for our work and client base. Since arriving we have already begun collaborating across Wedlake Bell assisting its existing clients but also providing our own clients with a first class, full service offering and we look forward to taking the practice from strength to strength”.
Wedlake Bell managing partner Martin Arnold concluded: “The hire of one of the market’s leading art law teams is a real statement of intent for Wedlake Bell as we enhance our art and luxury offering for clients. Rudy and Tim are real assets to the partnership, alongside their dedicated team of associates and solicitors. I very much look forward to working with them.”
