UK trade deal: cross-border opportunities
The free trade agreement will explicitly cover market access for legal services
The government is to begin talks to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), which would open up opportunities for cross-border legal services. Society president I. Stephanie Boyce said: “The CPTPP encourages the cross-border provision of legal services and, for some member countries, this is one of the first free trade agreements (FTAs) that explicitly covers market access commitments on legal services”. She added: “The CPTPP also has the potential to promote and support the legal services sector via the Professional Services Working Group.”
