UK financial regulator continues crackdown on unregistered crypto ATMs
The latest action has seen numerous sites in East London inspected
The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) announced on 8 March that it has taken further action to combat illegal crypto ATMs. The latest action by the regulator, in a joint operation with the Metropolitan Police, has seen several sites inspected in East London suspected of hosting unregistered crypto ATMs. Crypto ATM operators are required to register with the FCA in order to continue operations, however according to the regulator, there are currently no crypto ATM operators registered with the FCA. The National Economic Crime Centre is working with the FCA to jointly plan enforcement action to combat illegal crypto ATMs.
