STRUCK OFF

By Nicola Laver
A sole practitioner diverted £200,000 from a deceased estate to repay his firm's debts when winding down the practice. After a complaint by beneficiaries to the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), Cabeer Ahmed attempted to blame accounting errors. The Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT) heard that he had made improper transfers from client to office account in breach of the rules and found he had acted dishonestly. Ahmed also showed a lack of insight by denying any breaches. He was struck off and ordered to pay costs nearly £10,000. 26 August 2020
