Solicitor has mint idea
A British lawyer will close his Spanish law practice to expand sales of his 'heat tolerant sweets', the Spanish -climate's equivalent of Mint Imperials.
Antony Keeble set up a property law practice in Alicante ten years ago but admitted his biggest challenge was finding sweets that wouldn't melt in the stifling heat of his car.
'All the English mints I took to Spain deteriorated when kept in my car due to the intense heat,' said Keeble. 'My Spanish friends then told me they couldn't keep any sweets in their cars, not even chewing gum, so I decided to do something about it, for myself and the Spanish population!'
A fan of the Mint Imperial, Keeble was dismayed they didn't exist in Spain, so he created a heat tolerant 'Boggle Mint', containing no artificial additives, in 2013.
Launched in the south east of Spain, UK-based Boggle Confectionery Ltd is now preparing to crowdfund a nationwide expansion in 2016.
'After the successful trials just in Alicante, rolling out Boggle Mints across the whole of Spain was an easy decision to make,' he explained. 'As I thought they would, the Spanish love Boggles and it shouldn't be long before we hit the UK level of Mint Imperial sales, estimated to be up to £27m per year. I already have interest from other hot climate countries.'
Boggle Confectionery has the support of global advertising and marketing agency Grey Group and has recently announced an equity share sale on equity crowdfunding platform Seedrs.com.
'Spanish consumer reaction indicates that Boggles will become a much-loved Spanish classic travel sweet so maybe our equity sale offers individual investors an opportunity to be a part of Spanish confectionery history!' Keeble concluded.
Looks like the idea could be a breath of fresh air for the Iberian Peninsula and, if successful, who knows where the lawyer cum sweet magnate will aim his sights next.
