SHAM APPEAL

By

The high court has thrown out an appeal by a solicitor who was struck off due to the findings of an undercover TV exposé. The ITV documentary, Exposure: The Sham Marriage Racket, was televised in 2015 and showed sole practitioner Syed Muzaher Naqvi telling an undercover reporter he would help them apply for a visa following a sham marriage. The judge dismissed Naqvi's claim that the regulator used evidence gleaned from what amounted to entrapment and said he had no right to cross-examine his accusers. 4 June 2020
