PROTECTION SAFEGUARDS

By Nicola Laver
Full implementation of the new regime of liberty protection safeguards (LPS) has been pushed back until April 2022. A 12-week consultation will first be launched on the draft regulations and the new code of practice. This is to allow sufficient time for those that are affected, including those with learning disabilities, to engage properly. The LPS is set to replace deprivation of liberty safeguards though some provisions, covering new roles and training, and come into force ahead of the new date. 17 July 2020
