PLASTIC ESCAPE HM
By Nicola Laver
Prison Service has denied that prisoners were able to escape from their cells into corridors by digging through the walls using plastic cutlery. The Prison Officers' Association (POA) claimed that three inmates had done so at Winchester Prison. POA chairman Mark Fairhurst said one boarded up hole seen by a prison officer was big enough to crawl through. The maintenance of the prison had originally been managed by collapsed construction company Carillion. 14 June 2019
