NO-FAULT DIVORCE

By Nicola Laver
MPs have overwhelmingly voted in favour of the Divorce Bill which would end fault-based divorce, removing the need to prove adultery, unreasonable behaviour or desertion to secure a divorce. Chair of Resolution Margaret Heathcote welcomed the news calling the vote 'a victory for common sense and compassion'. She said no-fault divorce 'will ensure more families are able to come to long lasting, amicable and constructive agreements which benefit everyone involved, particularly children'. Royal assent to the bill could be imminent. 8 June
