A demand by the Office of Legal Complaints (OLC) for a 19 per cent budget increase for the Legal Ombudsman (LeO) in the middle of the covid-19 crisis is “unrealistic and poorly timed”, the Law Society said. Instead, the LeO should consider alternative sources of funds. It also said the LEO should focus on the reasons behind its poor performance levels, the steep rise in case backlog and the decline in the number of cases closed.
