Law Society Legal Heroes 2024 opens for nomination

The Law Society of England and Wales has launched the call for nominations for Legal Heroes 2024, an initiative that celebrates solicitors making significant contributions to their communities and society at large. Open for submissions from February 1 to February 28, 2024, the campaign encourages people across England and Wales to identify and honour individuals who have positively impacted the lives of others over the past two years.

Nick Emmerson, President of the Law Society, expressed excitement about acknowledging solicitors committed to helping people locally and globally. Recognizing solicitors as the backbone of the justice system, Emmerson emphasized the core values of the legal profession—putting the interests of others first and demonstrating dedication to helping those in need.

Highlighting the diverse contributions of past Legal Heroes, the Law Society noted their involvement in various charities and projects. Previous awardees were celebrated for their work against honour-based violence and female genital mutilation, support for unrepresented individuals in court, and efforts to protect retired solicitors and public insurance through cases related to the Solicitors Indemnity Fund (SIF). Other commendable actions included initiatives to sustain legal aid for vulnerable children and youth and the establishment of a fund facilitating social welfare workers in taking qualifying law exams.

The previous year's Legal Heroes attended a recognition ceremony with friends and family, celebrating their achievements and the positive impact they had on society. These ceremonies highlighted the diverse and crucial roles solicitors play in addressing societal challenges and contributing to positive change.

The nomination process is open from February 1 to February 28, 2024, allowing individuals to nominate solicitors they believe deserve recognition as Legal Heroes. The Law Society is keen on honoring those who exemplify the profession's values and showcase exceptional dedication to making a positive difference.
