By Nicola Laver
An immigration solicitor and former east-London councillor, Muhammad Harun, has been imprisoned for 16 months after being found guilty of housing fraud. Harun was discovered to have secured temporary accommodation for four years before being given a permanent home in Tower Hamlets in 2010, while owning bought a house in Barking and failing to disclose the change in circumstances. Sentencing Harun last month, the judge said: 'You made hundreds of bids for social housing and were a beneficiary of accommodation you were not entitled to.' Harun was also required to pay £125,000 compensation to the council. 19 November 2019
