The law has been amended to enable the police to respond to disruptive protest tactics

The Home Office announced on 14 June that the law has been amended to help support the police in tackling disruptive protest tactics, such as slow marching. According to the government press release, a clearer definition of ‘serious disruption’ has been adopted to clarify public order laws. The statutory instrument adopted by parliament, which takes effect on 15 June 2023, is aimed at combatting so-called highly disruptive protests impacting and causing distress to the public.
