FATAL FARMING

Farming has the highest fatality rate for workers in 2018-2019 compared to any other industry, according to new figures from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). The rate of farm deaths was 18 times as high as the average death rate across all other industries with more than 39 deaths on farms '“ 32 of which were agricultural workers. Moving vehicles resulting in 36 per cent of agricultural fatalities and half of those victims were at least 60 years old. An HSE spokeswoman said the industry needs to focus its efforts on managing risk. 7 August 2019
