Editor's Letter: Time to think
The traditionally quiet summer presents a great opportunity to think about firm strategy, says Manju Manglani
It’s always a good time to think about firm strategy, although it may rarely feel like it.
Unfortunately, the pressures of the job mean that managing partners are often best able to think creatively when away from their work routines. This tends to result in ‘eureka’ moments during a long commute, family time or late at night.
While it is wonderful to have such epiphanies, the fact that they tend to occur outside of the office suggests that lack of time is not the only problem. The office, which is filled with the sense of time pressures and unanswered emails, isn’t always the best place to think creatively.
Fortunately, the traditionally quiet summer is now upon those of us currently in the northern hemisphere. This is as good a reason as any to get a few key people out into the sun during a working week to explore how the firm will respond to future market changes.
It will undoubtedly be a challenge to schedule this outing around much-needed holidays. But can you imagine what great ideas will emerge if given a bit of fresh air?
Until next time,
Manju Manglani, Editor
