Martin Smith, an accomplished corporate lawyer with accolades such as being ranked as a "leading individual" by the Legal 500 in both the East Midlands and East Anglia, and recognised as an "expert" by Legal Business, brings a wealth of experience to the firm. Smith's expertise extends to a variety of high-profile transactions, including the sale of a company holding local Costa Coffee franchises, the sale of an app developer to an AIM-listed company, and the coordination of the £60 million acquisition of REVIEWS.io by US-based AppHub, marking one of the largest international business deals in the East Midlands.
Having worked with Martin on a consultancy basis for several years, DWS Legal's CEO, Sameer Karim, expressed enthusiasm about the appointment, highlighting Smith's invaluable contributions to numerous high-value corporate transactions. Karim noted, "With ambitious plans for our future, I was looking for someone with that level of experience, expertise, and leadership to join me on the Board as a fellow Director of DWS Legal. Martin Smith's extensive background includes roles as a corporate finance executive at Lazard Brothers and Kleinwort Benson, head of corporate law at Harvey Ingram Owston, and a partner at DJ Freeman, where he focused on the Media and Technology Department. His notable deals encompass AIM listings, private equity transactions, joint ventures, major privatisations, and contested takeovers of fully-listed companies.
