DLA Piper elects Charles Severs as Managing Partner: A new era of leadership begins

DLA Piper International, has announced the election of Charles Severs as its next Managing Partner, effective from January 1, 2025 succeeding Simon Levine

This transition follows the remarkable ten-year leadership tenure of Simon Levine, the outgoing International Managing Partner and Global co-CEO. Levine will take on a new role as the Strategic Innovation Partner, leading DLA Piper’s innovation and strategic transformation program.

Charles Severs, who joined DLA Piper as a partner in 2003, has held various leadership positions within the firm. Notably, he served as the International Group Head of Corporate, Managing Director for Groups, and, since 2018, Managing Director for Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa. His extensive experience within the organisation positions him as a natural choice for the role of Managing Partner.

Jon Hayes, DLA Piper’s Senior Partner, acknowledged the significant achievements under Simon Levine's leadership, including consistent revenue and profit growth, strengthened profiles across practice groups and sectors, and recognition for innovation and responsible business practices. Hayes expressed excitement about Charles Severs' appointment, anticipating a new chapter in the firm's evolution.

Simon Levine, reflecting on his decade-long collaboration with Severs, expressed confidence in passing the leadership baton. Levine highlighted Severs' strengths as both an outstanding lawyer and an effective leader who listens. Levine will work closely with Severs over the next ten months to facilitate a smooth transition.

In response to his appointment, Charles Severs expressed pride and passion for DLA Piper, emphasising the exciting future ahead. He acknowledged Levine as a tough act to follow and expressed delight in continuing to benefit from Levine's vision for innovation.
