UK citizens do not expect the rule of law to take a back seat during a national emergency, the leaders of the three branches of the profession said. Research carried out ahead of Justice Week 2021 in March, revealed less than half of 2,102 respondents surveyed believed UK democracy is working well and less than a fifth felt it was improving. A concerning 41 per cent said it is getting harder to enforce rights. Fewer than half (46 per cent) believed politicians actually understand how the law works.
