Crying in court: judicial bullying
A reported increase in bullying has prompted the Bar Council to encourage barristers to speak out
The Bar Council has met with the judiciary’s equality and diversity lead after a reported increase in judicial bullying and harassment of barristers. The regulator has encouraged counsel to speak out about bullying, following reports of barristers being made to cry in court. The Bar Council has a confidential helpline where counsel may speak to its equality and diversity team in confidence. Incidents may be reported via it reporting tool, Spot, while complainants decide how they would like to take the matter forward.
