Coroners' court: professional guidelines issued

The guidance follows concerns regarding practice standards

The Bar Standards Board, the Solicitors Regulation Authority and CILEx Regulation have published new guidelines for solicitors, barristers and CILEX Advocates working in Coroners’ Courts. The guidelines follow concerns about practice standards, with some professionals reported as being unduly adversarial. The guidelines include a set of competences which set out the standards expected of professionals, guidance and other resources. Coroners will be encouraged to address practice that falls below the required standard, either during the relevant hearing or with the relevant regulator.
