COHABITATION ON THE RISE
By Nicola Laver
The number of cohabiting couples has increased by more than a quarter in the last decade, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). This makes it the fastest growing family type in the UK and the second-largest family type. There has also been a 50 per cent rise in cohabiting same-sex couples since 2015. The statistics also reveal more than eight million people lived alone in 2018, up from 7.7m million the previous year. This is driven by increases in women aged 45 to 64; and men aged 65 to 74. 7 August 2019
