Essex law firm Birkett Long boosts Insolvency Team with Solicitor Charlotte Burkert

Essex-based law firm Birkett Long has recently made a significant addition to its Insolvency Team with the appointment of Solicitor Charlotte Burkert to the Dispute Resolution department. This expansion marks a strategic move by the firm to strengthen its expertise in handling insolvency-related matters.

Charlotte Burkert, who is based in the Colchester office, has been an integral part of Birkett Long since 2019. She initially joined the commercial and corporate department and later transitioned to a paralegal role within the dispute resolution department. Commencing her training contract in September 2021, Charlotte gained valuable experience in dispute resolution, working on a diverse range of cases, including contractual disputes, insolvency, and director/shareholder disputes, as well as private client and commercial and corporate matters.

Having successfully completed her training contract, Charlotte qualified as a Solicitor this year, demonstrating her commitment and dedication to her legal career. Her interest in insolvency was ignited during her time as a paralegal and trainee solicitor, where she worked alongside Kevin Sullivan within the dispute resolution team. Charlotte expressed her enthusiasm for her recent move to the Insolvency Team, emphasizing her focus on contentious and non-contentious insolvency matters.

Charlotte Burkert's educational background includes a Law degree from the University of Sunderland, where she graduated with a 2:1. She furthered her legal education by completing the Legal Practice Course combined with a Masters in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Law in London, graduating in 2021 while concurrently working full time with Birkett Long. Charlotte is also an Associate member of R3, the Association of Business Recovery Professionals.

During her academic journey, Charlotte gained practical experience by working in a local law firm's Prison Law and Criminal Defence Department, dealing with parole hearings and Crown Court trials. Additionally, she undertook a mini pupillage at a well-known chambers in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, shadowing Counsel at a Crown Court trial. Charlotte's commitment to community service is evident through her voluntary work as a court-based Witness Support with the Citizens Advice Bureau Witness Service, aiding prosecution and defense witnesses through the court process.

Kevin Sullivan, Partner and head of the Insolvency Team at Birkett Long, expressed delight in Charlotte's recent addition to the team. With over 20 years of experience in contentious insolvency law, Sullivan highlighted Charlotte's skills and background in handling various dispute resolution and corporate matters, anticipating that her presence would enhance the firm's capabilities in all insolvency-related issues.
