Baroness Scotland's former housekeeper, Loloahi Tapui from Tonga, has been charged with a range of immigration offences.

Baroness Scotland's former housekeeper, Loloahi Tapui from Tonga, has been charged with a range of immigration offences.

The Attorney General was fined £5,000 for employing an illegal immigrant in September this year. She had earlier dismissed Tapui, following revelations in the press about her immigration status.

As minister of state at the Home Office, Baroness Scotland helped guide the Immigration, Nationality and Asylum Act 2006 through the Lords, which introduced on-the-spot fines for employers.

Following an investigation, the UK Border Agency said it was satisfied that Baroness Scotland did not knowingly employ Tapui.

The Tongan, who has been charged with possession of a false identity document, fraud by false representation and overstaying leave to remain, will appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court next month.
