ALCOHOL-FUELLED CRIME
By Nicola Laver
In Wales, judges can ban criminals from drinking alcohol for up to 120 days if they have committed 'alcoholfuelled' crimes, and order them to wear sobriety tags which will monitor compliance by alerting the probation service if alcohol is consumed. Offenders who fail to comply face further fines or can be returned to court for further sentencing. The scheme will be extended to England early 2021. The Ministry of Justice said alcohol is a factor in around 39% of violent crime and a key driver in domestic violence. 21 October 2020 COVID-19
