A pre-inquest review hearing regarding the death of Sabina Rizvi will be held at the Central Criminal Court, Old Bailey, London EC4M 7EH, from 10.30am on Wednesday 27 September.
Paul Asbury was convicted of Sabina’s murder in 2004, but several others who were involved in her murder have not been convicted.
The Rizvi family, from Merton in London, have been fighting for the full inquest into Sabina’s death to be held in order to fully establish the role the police played in the circumstances surrounding her murder.
The inquest, which was originally opened and adjourned in 2003, was finally reopened in February 2019 with Senior Coroner for South London Sarah Ormond-Walsh confirming that Article 2, the right to life, is engaged.
Since then, three pre-inquest review hearings have been held, in January 2020, January 2022 and January 2023. As well as making progress towards the full inquest, this latest PIR hearing will see the following issues discussed:
• The scope of the inquest
• Disclosure of evidence
• The witness list
• The inquest timetable
The Rizvi family are represented by solicitor Anna Moore, of law firm Leigh Day and Rajiv Menon KC and Chris Williams of Garden Court Chambers
