The firm's M&A team supported ENGIE in its acquisition of Rainbarrow Farm, an award-winning facility boasting anaerobic digestion (AD) capabilities for biomethane production

ENGIE, a French multinational committed to advancing the transition towards a carbon-neutral world, has been actively expanding its presence in renewable energy markets. The acquisition of Rainbarrow Farm aligns with ENGIE's goals, adding to its growing portfolio of AD plants in the UK and reinforcing its position in the renewable gas industry.

Rainbarrow Farm, located in Dorchester, has been lauded for its innovative approach to sustainable energy generation. With an annual operational capacity of 57 GWh, the facility has been instrumental in supplying renewable energy to local communities and businesses across Dorset, showcasing the potential of biomethane in creating a circular economy.

This acquisition marks ENGIE's second venture into the UK's biogas market within six months, following its previous acquisition of Ixora Energy Ltd. Burges Salmon, once again, led the legal advisory team, demonstrating its expertise in navigating complex transactions in the renewable energy sector.

Commenting on the transaction, Danny Lee, Partner at Burges Salmon, expressed satisfaction in supporting ENGIE's strategic growth in the UK market. Lee emphasised the increasing attractiveness of clean biogas as a vital resource for decarbonising the energy system, complementing low-carbon electricity solutions.
