Cut to the chase

Just over 12 months to go before ‘ABS day’ and players are slowly taking position on the chessboard designed by the Legal Services Act.

QualitySolicitors – who stormed the forecourt of the RCJ last year handing out cans of baked beans to passers by as a warning that Tesco law will damage high street firms and lower standards – has just announced a partnership with financial advisers AWD Chase de Vere.

QualitySolitors was set up in response to the anticipated threat to high street firms and has now grown into a network of about 200 firms, all of which remain independent organisations but can take advantage of a nationwide brand.

Its website is not the usual law firm’s style and some may be puzzled by the Keira Knightley lookalike figure welcoming visitors.

It would also be easy to dismiss the venture as yet another legal network but beyond the visuals is a shared aspiration underpinned by shared standards, a sort of cooperative spirit where members...
