Re S (a child) (2005)

A trial judge had erred in deciding to allow disclosure of confidential information concerning prospective adopters to the mother of the child at issue, since he had failed to give sufficient weight to the child's strong and urgent need for a placement in a new family, and it had been clear that if the information actually had been disclosed the placement would have been lost.

R v Gray (2005)

Whilst the Criminal Justice Act 2003, s 285 had increased the statutory maximum sentence for causing death by dangerous driving that did not necessarily mean that the scale of every sentence, as set out in R v Cooksley (Robert Charles) [2003] EWCA Crim 996, [2003] 2 Cr App R 18, had to be increased by 40 per cent.
