Newly-merged transatlantic firm Steptoe & Johnson
Rakisons is taking on the former head of litigation at Hammond Suddards Edge in
Manchester.

Ian
Meredith left the firm at the end of November and was put on six months
gardening leave. He resigned with the intention of joining a US firm in London
and Steptoe fitted the bill. He will be the firm's third litigation partner in
London. Meredith said that the area is central to the European expansion plans
of the firm. Steptoe plans to focus its litigation capability on three main
areas - insurance and reinsurance, commercial disputes, and regulatory
work.
