Plastic surgery

9 June 2006

The unrealistic expectations of patients undergoing cosmetic surgery are a major cause of compensation claims, according to a report by the Medical Defence Union (MDU) insurance group.

The report found that 40 per cent of successful claims were made because of dissatisfaction with the outcome of the operation in terms of a patient’s prior expectations. The MDU said that around 250 claims have been made for cosmetic surgery over the past ten years at a cost of £8.5m.
