NHS settles on equal pay claim

18 March 2005

The NHS is facing a potential £300m payout after a settlement was reached with 1,500 female former employees claiming pay discrimination.
The case lasted for eight years and is likely to see the staff – employed by Cumberland Infirmary and West Cumbria Hospital – receive between £35,000 and £200,000 in back pay. The women were represented by their union, UNISON, and the case was settled by barristers from Cloisters chambers.
