New court design guidelines released

26 November 2004

New guidelines that set out precise details of how future courts should be designed and built have been published in the new Court Standards Design Guide.
All new Crown courts, county courts and magistrates’ courts will now have a standard layout, and a common approach to items such as advocates’ benches, custody cells and public waiting areas.
There will be better access for all users and court designers and architects will be expected to incorporate cutting-edge IT such as video links, video-conferencing, email, in-court intranet and public display screens into their designs for courthouses.
